Nadia Yassine's trial postponed again
09-09-2008
The criminal chamber of the Rabat Court of First Instance adjourned on September 4, 2008, the trial of Nadia Yassine until February 26, 2009 for the seventh time in a row.

The first hearing was held on June 28, 2005, and was suspended in a very strange way, and postponed to an undetermined date. The date of 14 March 2006 was subsequently appointed by the court for the hearing which in turn was postponed to a later unspecified date. The court then appointed 31 October 2006, which was also postponed to April 19, 2007, then to 18 October 2007, and then to March 20, 2008, to September 4, 2008, and finally until February 26, 2009.

Nadia Yassine, whose trial began on June 28, 2005, is being prosecuted for violating the "sacred institutions of the Kingdom" for the views she had voiced in an interview published by the weekly "Al Ousbouiîya Al Jadida" in its edition of June 2, 2005 (No. 30).
The defendants Gougas Aziz, former director of the publication and journalists Adil Najdi and Hairane Mostafa, who carried out the interview with Nadia Yassine, are also prosecuted in this case under articles 41, 67 and 68 of the publishing and Press Code.
