| Communiqué
in condemnation of the repression on the Justice and Spirituality Movement
by the Makhzen and associates.

| The Moroccan regime’s repression on the Justice and Spirituality Movement has recently entered a new escalating phase represented in leveling unfounded accusations and instituting false legal proceedings, as was the case with Muhammad Abbadi and the brothers prosecuted in the same fabricated lawsuit, and as is presently the case with Mounir Reguragui and Nadia Yassine as well as other senior and junior members of the movement. Worse, the Makhzen has even searched desperately in the files of events that took place 15 years ago for any shadow of fake evidence to incriminate arbitrarily members of the movement, as is currently the case with Omar Mouhib. |
| Such escalating repression is taking place while the majority of Moroccans suffers from tragic social conditions such as increasing unemployment and poverty rates, acute lack of healthcare services, sharp rises in taxes and the costs of living. Let alone a suffocating economic and financial crisis in the midst of which the country is being sold in installments, administrative corruption that voluntary redundancy and other unsuccessful measures could not hide, disgraceful debacles in more than an issue, the vanishing in the air of all the “new era’s” hollow slogans, the failure to counter the mafia of smugglers, drug tycoons and public money embezzlers, the uncovering of the fake “tragicomedy” concocted by the so-called “Parliament” and “Government”, political and diplomatic seclusion nationally, intra-nationally and internationally, servile capitulation and normalization with the Zionist artificial State the list is unfortunately long. A tragic and explosive situation by all accounts! |
| Yet instead of avowing its errors, facing the facts and endeavoring to remedy the situation, the Moroccan regime is now brazenly conducting a repressive campaign against a popular opposition that has expressed—outside the herd of the Makhzen’s associates and accomplices—its indignation against the tragic situation that Morocco is now living. Such campaign is none but a pseudo front that the regime, having failed to address the real issues of Moroccans, has opened and for which it has mobilized its government, media, political parties and repressive police authorities of all stripes in order to besiege and check a significant section of the Moroccan people that has declined to take part in the “tragicomedy”. Where is democracy? Where is the right to difference? Where is the alleged Islamic nature of the country? Are there no more sensible people in the regime? |
| The Justice and Spirituality Movement, victimized by such heinous campaign against its members (abductions, arbitrary arrests, tortures, humiliations, raiding and sealing of houses, robbing of house furniture and personal effects, harassment in liberal professions, dismissal from government occupations, deprivation from the right of opinion, the right of founding associations, denial of all civic rights, fabrication of charges and trials, privation of even the right to spend days of worship in mosques during the sacred month of Ramadan, of the right to visit the sick, to pay the dead the last honors, to hold ceremonies for the newborn…etc), considers such vile practices to be flagrant human rights’ abuses condemned by all Islamic, legal and moral standards, holds all the participants in the repressive, arbitrary campaign historically accountable and reminds all those who believe in God and the Day of Judgment, and all the people of good will and integrity of what follows: |
| -Working in the State apparatus in the current situation does not exculpate the participants in the campaign before God and History.-The accomplices in such crimes—those who carry out the Makhzen’s phone instructions and other tricky methods, will be held fully responsible for any national tragedy that may befall the country.-The unfounded accusations published by the media of political parties and the hired journalists—those self-appointed judges who render readymade judgments based on fabricated charges drawn from the rumors circulated by the Makhzen’s official and hired agents—are an express support and instigation of the Makhzen to further escalate its arbitrary practices and an effective participation in its crimes.-We strangely and regrettably deplore the uncomely conduct of some newspapers in our country that would not hesitate to report trivial events from all the four quarters of the globe, but would keep totally silent over the flagrant aggressions and violations perpetrated against the Justice and Spirituality Movement. |
| On this occasion, we should like to salute and commend all the free actors, newspapers and institutions that have braved the Makhzen’s terrorism and have dauntlessly condemned such atrocious crimes inside and outside Morocco. We also call upon all our fellow citizens, all the components of the Moroccan people, the civil society, and the people of good will and integrity to assume their responsibility and take the appropriate measures against such unjust practices. We also—and always—remind of our rejection of all sorts of violent reactions, our uncompromising claim of our rights in full, and our adherence to dialogue and transparency in order to save our country from the quagmire wherein it has been immersed for decades. |
