| The spokesperson of the Islamic movement “Justice and Spirituality” (al ‘Adl wal Ihsan), president and founding member of the Feminine Section of the Moroccan movement, Nadia Yassine, had yesterday a long and warm meeting with the management of the Islamic Council of Spain in its central offices in Almodóvar del Río. The meeting was attended by Mansur Escudero, Abdelkarim Carrosco, Hanif Escudero, Kamila Toby, Abdelhafid Conget, Hassan Maiga and Hachim Cabrera. | |
| Nadia Yassine explained to the members of the Islamic Council her views about Islam and the future of her country. After they had a nice family lunch, the Moroccan leader gave a long interview to Mansur Escudero. |
| Nadia Yassine did not shun any of the numerous questions about such various subjects as the current policies in Morocco, the role of the Monarchical institution from an Islamic viewpoint, democracy, terrorism, the role of women in Islam, homosexuality, the Western Sahara… etc. This exclusive interview will be soon published on webislam.com |
| In her talk, she reiterated the principle of non-violence as a basic component in the communitarian project of the “Justice and Spirituality” movement while insisting on the imperative necessity of opening. Such opening is indeed in conformity with the spirit of the Qur’anic Message that invites Muslims to make an effort of reflection and interpretation of the Divine Message in order to meet the demands of the Muslim community. |
| She astonished the audience by the concordance of her viewpoints on Islam with those on the modern world and globalization. Such concordance will find expression (God willing) in a creative exchange of ideas and projects that will precisely serve as a pillar for an Islam that is global, spiritual and social, and thus in conformity with the original Prophetic Message. |
| Opening the door of Ijtihad means precisely being able to share our experiences, discuss them, and analyse them in order to adapt the recommendations of Revelation with our daily lives as Muslims who endeavor to follow the path of the Prophet Muhammad (God bless him and give him peace). That door has never been closely completely; it rather remained half open. It is this door that God opens now before us so that we may aspire to His knowledge, so that we may use our minds as He reiterated it to us many a time in the Qur’an. |
| Lovely, intelligent and determined, Nadia Yassine did not hesitate to voice her opinion regarding such a delicate question as the political power in Morocco. She mentioned the republic as a framework propitious to exercising the political and Islamic duty of shura (assembly for mutual consultation) as a real democratic institution. She spoke in favor of deep reflection in order to broach the fundamental questions of this model and eventually put the traditional institutions in harmony with democracy as perceived in the advanced contemporary societies. |
| Nadia Yassine is the spokesperson of the Islamic movement “Justice and Spirituality”, and daughter of Imam Abdessalam Yassine, the leader and founding member of the movement. Holder of a degree in political science from the University of Fès (Morocco), she took part in various international conferences and forums, and gave several lectures in Paris, Lyon, Brussels, Chambéry…etc. She is author of "Full Sails Ahead" (Justice and Spirituality Publishing 2006) and a frequent media commentator on national and international affairs. |
